I suppose most businesses gain their edge by forms of deception. I feel one needs to be aware of predatory techniques whether "in yer face" or subtle and subliminal as salesmen tend to leave you alone if you appear a strong willed person.

I strongly recommend Dave's books. The Power of an Hour, and Persuasion: The Art of Getting What You Want.

Dave has a very powerful way of explaining the concepts of ethical persuasion that shows others how to use them to good effect. His explanation of the importance of your personal story is extremely valuable.

Dave Lakhani is a third rate hack trying to pass himself as some sort of guru. I read the Power of an Hour which is a totally horrid book.

What leaves me deeply cold about this gentleman is his motives not his technques. He speaks of 'force' - uses rapport and invades unguarded moments in communications to breach the guard and infiltrate the psyche. This may impress US marketing gurus but from a humane perspective its icy - he manipulates for profit, for gain - not for their persoanl development. Pity really because he's brilliant at what he does - he's simply unethical which of course is what the business ethos is predicated on.
